Tariffs, unit rates and standing charges

Explains what your unit rate (per kWh) and daily standing charge are, how fixed tariffs work at Bunch, when SVT may apply, and where to find your exact rates.

What your tariff includes

If you’re on a Bunch fixed energy tariff:

  • Your unit rate (what you pay per kWh of gas and/or electricity) and your daily standing charge (the fixed daily fee to stay connected to the energy network) are set when you sign up.

  • These rates stay the same for the duration of your contract (unless you move to a different property or package).

  • This doesn’t mean your monthly payment is fixed — it can go up or down if you use more or less energy than expected, so your account stays on track.


Unit rate

  • The unit rate is the price you pay for each unit of energy (kWh) you use — for both gas and electricity.

  • On a fixed tariff, the unit rate you agree at sign-up stays the same for 12 months (the length of your contract).


Standing charge

  • The standing charge is a daily fee that helps cover the cost of keeping your property connected to the energy network (pipes, cables and other infrastructure).

  • You’ll be charged this even on days you don’t use any energy.


Changing your tariff during a fixed term

  • If you’re on a fixed Bunch energy tariff, we don’t move you mid-contract to cheaper deals. Your unit rate and standing charge stay the same for the agreed term.

  • At renewal, we use your actual usage history to set a fair allowance and quote for the next term.

Will you ever be on a Standard Variable Tariff (SVT)?

You’ll only move onto an SVT if:

  • Your contract ends, and

  • You don’t renew or extend your agreement with Bunch.

While you’re on a fixed tariff, you’re protected from SVT price changes, which can move up or down with the market. If your fixed tariff ends and no new contract is in place, you’ll automatically switch to SVT until your services are renewed or cancelled.

  • By contacting Customer Services, who will be happy to help.

  • These charges (both the unit rate and standing charge) are clearly listed when you sign up with Bunch.
