Switching your energy away from Bunch

Explains how to cancel your Bunch energy supply and switch to another supplier, what happens between cancellation and takeover (including SVT), what evidence to provide, how your final bill is calculated, and how to handle delays or objections.

Updated this week

When you can leave

You can request to switch your gas/electricity to another supplier at renewal or mid-contract (subject to your agreement). We’ll confirm your request and the planned switch date with you.

We keep your supply on until your new supplier takes over. You won’t be left without energy.

How to cancel and start a switch

  1. Tell us you’re switching

    • Contact us to confirm you’re moving your energy to a new supplier.

    • We’ll record your intended switch date and note any supplier you’ve chosen (if known).

  2. We acknowledge your cancellation

    • We’ll email confirmation that we’ve accepted the request for your energy services.

    • From this point, you remain supplied by Bunch until the new supplier completes the takeover.

  3. Your new supplier begins the takeover

    • They place the request in the national energy database.

    • If anything’s missing (e.g., address mismatch or account issues) the new supplier may raise an objection (see below).

Cooling-off period and cancellation fees

  • You have a 14-day cooling-off period from the day you sign up for Bunch energy. If you cancel within this period, no cancellation fee is charged.

  • If you cancel after your 14-day cooling-off period, a cancellation fee will apply.

What you pay between cancellation and takeover (SVT)

After we’ve accepted your cancellation, and until your new supplier takes over, your energy moves onto our Standard Variable Tariff (SVT).

  • You’ll be billed on SVT only for this interim period.

  • Once the takeover completes, Bunch stops billing you for energy.

Final meter reading and evidence we’ll ask for

To close your Bunch energy account accurately and help your new/previous supplier bill correctly, please provide:

  • A switch-date meter reading taken on or around the day the new supplier takes over.

  • A clear photo of the meter showing the full meter face and serial number.

  • If requested, a copy of a recent bill or tenancy document to confirm responsibility for the property.

Your final bill from Bunch

Once the takeover completes and we have your final reading:

  • We calculate your usage and standing charges up to the switch date (including any interim SVT days).

  • If your account is in credit, we’ll refund you the balance.

  • If there’s a balance to pay, we’ll issue a final invoice.

  • You’ll receive a final statement by email. Keep it for your records or if the next supplier asks for it.

Objections and delays (from your new supplier)

Common reasons your new supplier may object to a takeover:

  • Unpaid debt on the current account.

  • They believe you’re not responsible for the meter/property.

  • The switch was requested too early or before the account is fully closed/settled.

What to do:

  • Your new supplier must tell you why they objected and how to resolve it (e.g., settle a balance, provide tenancy proof).

  • Once cleared, the new supplier can re-attempt the switch and the takeover will proceed.

If the takeover is delayed

  • Bunch will continue to supply and bill you until the takeover completes.

  • You’ll stay on SVT for any interim days after cancellation.

  • Keep sending any evidence we request (reading, meter photo) so we can close promptly once the switch happens.

Moving out vs. switching supplier

If you’re moving out, tell us your move-out date and provide a final reading. Your responsibility ends from that date and you’ll receive a move-out final bill.

If you’re staying but switching supplier, responsibility continues until the new supplier takes over.
