What to Do in a Gas or Power Emergency

Smell gas or lost power? Follow these steps to stay safe, check the issue, and contact the right team for help or further support.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

If You Smell Gas

  • Leave the property immediately — do not use any electrical switches or appliances.

  • Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 (open 24/7).

  • Do not attempt to locate the leak or fix the issue yourself.

  • Once the emergency team has confirmed it is safe, you can return to the property.

If Your Energy Cuts Out

  • Check your fuse box — a tripped switch is the most common cause.

  • Look out for any weather issues or power outages in your area.

  • Ask your neighbours if they’re experiencing the same issue.

  • Check your boiler — some display error codes that can help identify the problem.

    • Note: Older boilers may not show specific faults.

Still No Power?

  • Call your local electricity network operator on 105 for help.

  • If the issue persists or isn’t network-related, please contact our customer support team.
